Sex Marriage And Same Sex Parental Adoption - 1482 Words
Intro to LGBT Studies Case Study Part 1: Historical Context Due September 22, 2017 The topics of same-sex marriage and same-sex parental adoption have been controversial and ongoing topics in recent years, which is a drastic change in mainstream society. People of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LBGT) community have had a difficult time in gaining visibility and equal civil liberties, one of which is marriage equality. Same-sex couples have only recently been recognized under the law as legal candidates for marriage rights, and adoption is now an additional option; however, although the rights have been granted, there is still much more work to be done concerning the full benefits of same-sex marriage and adoption rights.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The word ââ¬Å"lesbianâ⬠first made an appearance in the works of Sappho, a Greek poet whose origins date back to seventh century BCE. ââ¬Å"A notable exception [to nearly all Greek literary production being written by men] was the poet Sappho, who lived in the seventh century BCE on the island of Lesbos (thus the word lesbian).â⬠/ ââ¬Å"Many young, wealthy Greek women were sent to Lesbos to study the arts with Sappho. Much of Sapphoââ¬â¢s surviving poetry is love lyrics to these young womenâ⬠(Meem, Gibson, Alexander 2018). The birth of lesbianism being a derivative of Sappho s Lesbos makes Sappho the rightful creator. In a more modern context, the traditional societal views prohibited lesbian-identifying women to be open, thus forcing them to conceal their true affections. ââ¬Å"Before the rise of the lesbian-feminist movement in the early 1970ââ¬â¢s, twentieth-century women writers were generally intimidated into silence about the lesbian experiences in their lives. In their literature, male personae took the voice of their most auto-biographical characters, and they were thus permitted to love other womenâ⬠(Faderman 1979). Faderman continues to explain how Sappho s island of Lesbos became a type of code in the vernacular in the time of Lady Mary Montagu; her love letters to a woman named Anne Wortley included illusions to the fictitious island and what it would be like to ââ¬Å"fancy ourselves in Lesbosâ⬠Show MoreRelatedLegal Issues For Gay And Lesbian Adoption And Parental Rights1626 Words à |à 7 Pagesand Lesbian Adoption and Parental Rights Issue Although adoption can be difficult for any single person or married couple, adoption for the gay and lesbian population presents a unique set of challenges both societal and legal. Australian Industry Mining Problem-Free-Samples-Myassignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about the Australian Industry Mining Problem -Social and Environmental Issues. Answer: Literature Review: Australia is geographically enriched with different mineral resources, which includes gold, natural gas, coal, diamond, copper, uranium and many others. These mining resources are basic reason for large scale immigration. Immigration started in early nineteenth century from Europe, New Zealand(Oxfordbusinessgroup, 2016). These immigrant communities started settling in Australia and became part of Australian population over the years. One of the basic resources on which Australian economy is largely depending is the core segment of mining industry. It contributes 54% of total goods and services which is $138 billion per annum. Mining industry employs 2% of the workforce directly and much more people indirectly. Like any other industry, Mining industry also has environmental and social issues(Abs, 2015). Mining and the environment: the future of Australias brand The Conversation published an article on Mining and the environment: the future of Australias brand on July 11, 2012 2.48pm AEST. This article has stated that mining in Australia has a major impact on economy as it has contributed to 8.4% of GDP in 2009-10. This industry is causing adverse impact on environment. Australian tourism depends on natural beauty of environment. Tourism sector plays an important factor in Australian economy as Australian tourism has made presence in world tourism as a big brand. This article has tried to emphasize on explaining with exploration about continued coexistence without altering one another. There are debates on recent mining proposals on environmental and social issues(Adams, 2012). The Great Barrier Reef and Purnululu National Park are known for their natural beauty and biological diversity(Edreams, 2016). They are very important economic resources with continued contribution to immense environmental values. They have cultural values also. For these reasons these two sites are World Heritage sites. Kimberley is known for no recorded mammals and thus is very important in Anthology also. The Great Barrier Reef has a large contribution in gross domestic product to Australia. Two mining projects were to start there namely Alpha Coal and James Price Point gas hub(Wahlquist, 2015). UNESCO has given alarming report on The Great Barrier Reef. This report reiterated that bio diversity in this area is in danger due to mining activities. Mining activities lead population growth, deceasing natural resources, shipping activities as all are important factors and results of mining sector. There are two other projects including Kevins Corner Projects and China First which has similar impacts on environments. Open coal project may wipe out all natural inhabitants from there, which leads to nature refuge. Kimberley has the heritage listed dinosaur traces and may have been threatened by proposed gas hub. The Environment Minister of Australia, Burke has ceased the movement on these projects to properly review the impacts on this natural bio diversity(Adams, 2012). The article clearly has mentioned that the James Price Point gas hub can be replaced in other site as mining proposals are always site specific. Its not necessary that gas hub must be opened in Kimberley only; it can be opened in any alternate place like Pilbara which has less environmental issues. There is a policy to protect whales, turtles and other aquatic animals. This policy is known as Woodside Environment Policy. This policy has to be reconsidered if the James Price Point gas hub proposal would move further(Weber, 2015) This article has stated great concern about locals residing there. There are several tribal groups in Australia who are taking care of such places where all these mining sites are proposed. These local people are landholders of these sites. But the article couldnt give answer whether locals have a good or bad impact on these mining projects. In fact it has clearly stated its confusion and doesnt have any stand for local in this issue. But the article has shown its concern over these issues. It has stated the total estimated value to be spent for the community living there. It even acknowledged that Woodside work has concern for active lock and gate. But somehow there is no consensus till now according to this article and thats true in every sense. These mining proposals have negative impact on social and environmental issues, but at the same time they can facilitate public interests to a larger extent. It has real opinion that mining is important for economy but at the same time tour ism is a branding also. It also has a great impact on economy. So preservation is very important but neglecting mining may harm the economy. Australia cannot afford to lose either of two for sake of one. So to maintain the reputation of the country, Environment Ministry has to think over its decision and thats the spirit of this article(McHugh, 2017). Shenhua mine could affect groundwater and trees several kilometres away, study finds The ABC NEWS has published an article about Shenhua mine could affect groundwater and trees several kilometres away, study finds by Angela Lavoipierre Posted 8 Sep 2015, 3:20pm. This article has stated that research has found about affecting ground water by open cut mines. This specific ground water crisis can cause normal living of the trees up to several kilometres. This research may have impact on Shenhua Coal mines, which is proposed to be open-cut mine. But the mine has received conditional approval from the Australian Government. Researcher Dr Sebastian Pfautsch of University of Western Sydney told that the coal project should be further assessed on environmental hazards in long term. He clearly gave his view and quoting him, the article is telling that Pilbara were affected by severe drop in the water table in long run which is a risk for natural vegetation there. Australia has scarcity in ground water level, so further decrease may toll in future for sure. It is the second dr iest continent in the world. He pointed out that reducing in water table depends directly on the depth of the mines(Lavoipierre, 2015). Although Federal Government has cleared its proposal but it has been challenged in the New South Wales Land and Environment Court. Dr Pfautsch told that the actual mine area is different from what they proposed. It seems that Shenhua have not considered all the possible effects of dropping the water level outside the mine site. The article showed that Dr Pfautch is worried as this forest includes some of the endangered box gum woodland. He also stated that to have a clear view on effectiveness, one has to study the dropping of water table of the whole area, not only the mine site itself. Tim Duddy from Caroona Coal Action also supported Dr Pfautch. He added further with his observation that trees around mine projects has the tendency to die which emphasizes on the correct inference by this research. Water sources are now reducing to shallow water level which endangers the vegetative. This has impact not only on trees rather on other species living in water also. In large scale, the s hallow aquifers have huge impacts on the bio-diversity. Dr Pfautsch's work showed that Shenhua did not conduct its research homework and thus gave an incomplete view(Lavoipierre, 2015). This article is giving one sided review and not giving any solution or further strategic resources to tackle the problem in future. It stated only a research paper based on ones perspective but did not mention the relevant points to cope up with all hazards caused by dewatering through mining sites. But it surely highlighted the important facts that mining projects are reducing water level- not only of the mining sites but also from around the mining sites also(Chan, 2015). Environmental rehabilitation and mine closure The AusIIM BULETINE has published an article about Environmental rehabilitation and mine closure By Chris Davis FAusIMM (CP), AusIMM Board member and Board representative on the Community and Environment Society committee on February, 2015. This article stated Exciting changes in environmental policy for mine rehabilitation and emerging closure of the mines. In this process AusIIM members have played a crucial role. It is a long time practice that miners have always rehabilitated their mine sites. They did not get success every time but they tried to fulfil their commitment. Each company has different perception for the community, world and environment. Thus responsibility towards environment and society has been changed. So rehabilitation process also varies from company to company. Most important factor is whether the company has willingness to invest in rehabilitation process or not. This investment for environment actually has no profit making process for company rather it is a s ocial responsibility of a company(Ausimmbulletin, 2015). In this article, it has mentioned that company has to take financial burden to overcome the process of rehabilitation. This rehabilitation is sum of legislative framework and willingness of regulators. Government as well as the community has expectations to save environment and society. Mining company needs efficient people with modern rehabilitation technologies. In some societies, both parties come together to rebuild the environment to cope up the loss during mining. But mostly poor outcomes are common as mining companies have little interest beyond profit making process. So mine closure is less prioritized in Australian community. So there is a big question which is arising on their unacceptable legacy. This situation is leaving many mining sites abandoned and with danger. It is not a legacy issue in Australia only but around the world also as this subject generates debate and controversy. This article discussed why people have negative impact on mine closure and why it has been found failed over the years with insufficient efforts(Abc, 2015). This article has clearly mentioned the process of mine closure in two very good publications: Mine Closure and Completion Handbook of The Australian Government publication and Planning for Integrated Mine Closure Toolkit of the International Council on Mining Metals (ICMM)(Icmm, 2017). Both have explained all the possible options, their approach and how to negotiate. As the leading institute, the AusIIM has entitled with best practices for all mineral professionals. Many AusIIM members are expert in this field. They are ready to involve in environmental rehabilitation and mine closure process. They have community, they have platform for debate to make people aware about specific risks of improper mine closure. They adopted several policies after many debates and conferences(Saunders et al., 2016). The article is good enough to make people understand the necessity of mine closure in the process of environmental rehabilitation. It stated how this works with all legal inputs and the corporate social responsibility. This article highlighted all the disputed cases with possible outcomes to meet the both ends. Many times Government reviewed their policy framework and started afresh to resolve the issue. The article is one of best in its subject as it stated all the positive and negative aspects and never tried to give any predetermined conclusion anywhere. It tried to reduce the negative perspective of mining companies as people can think that mining is responsible for environmental hazards. This may lead to diminishing mining projects in the country. Mining is one of most important sector in Australia and one cannot afford to stop all mining activities. This article has emphasized on mine closure practice with all advocating helps from minerals professionals to set up mining projec ts with eases by mitigating the risks of environmental and social hazards(Scribd, 2015). The Age of Adz by Sufjan Stevens free essay sample
I am a sixteen year old girl. To think of a sixteen year old girl, one might think of a fake blonde, short-shorts wearing teeny-bopper who spends an exorbitant amount of money on a cell phone bill, lip gloss, and listens to Taylor Swift during a horrific breakup-there are many of those for a sixteen-year old girl, and these relationships are extremely ephemeral. But I am different. Yes, I am a fake blonde, but not the platinum color you might think of.My short-shorts are high waisted, as opposed to denim. I cost little on a cell phone bill, own the same lip gloss I bought in seventh grade, and I have never had a boyfriend, or listened to Taylor Swift religiously. But here is someone I HAVE listened to religiously: Sufjan Stevens. This is MY Taylor Swift, the artist I listen to when I have a bad day, or even boy problems. We will write a custom essay sample on The Age of Adz by Sufjan Stevens or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page His newest album, Age of Adz, came out when we were both growing up. I was growing up from small crushes to big time love, and he grew up from indie-folk to experimental electronic music. Track 1, Futile Devices, still has a slightly indie feel, with its background guitar. I listened to this song after a boy turned his back on me, and when it was pouring rain every day where I live. This is why I recommend listening to this song with Rainymood, it only adds to the true perfection of the vocals and instrumentals. On this particular track, his voice soars to the high-pitched guitar, which is mentioned in the song. And when you play guitar, I listen to the strings buzz/the metal vibrates underneath, your fingers I love this song to pieces, which makes it hard to write about. You MUST listen to this song NOW. I dont care if you exit out of my review. I want you to experience what I have experienced. Another favorite song on this album is Vesuvius, which is what I like to call my 4AM song. In the middle of the night, when I cannot sleep, this song stimulates my deepest emotions and then relaxes them, so that sleep will be imminent. The final track I will mention is Now That Im Older. I listened to this two days in a row-one day when I was younger, the next day when I was older. This does not refer to a birthday, it refers to a day in which I was forced to grow up swiftly. In the background of this piece, a chorus sings several notes, their voice wobbling. Sufjans voice is edited so that previous notes can be heard over the current one. This song also speaks of heartbreak and the pain of quickly growing up, something that many teenage girls can deal with. I have only touched on his most recent album, which abruptly changed from his others, which featured an innocent, pure indie folk melody. I write of this new album because I too, have abruptly changed. Every girl has undergone this abrupt change from knowing exactly who you are to knowing nothing. Our 4AM music is abused during this time, because only music can give us solace. My hope is that someone will read this and instead of turning on Dear John at 4AM, they will instead turn to the haunting sound of Vesuvius. And when walking to school on a rainy day, they will turn to Futile Devices. And during inevitable heartbreak and confusion, I know for a fact that Now That Im Older goes right along with your feelings.

Elvis presley, version of Hound dog Essay Example Elvis presley, version of Hound dog Paper Elvis presley, version of Hound dog Paper As most of us know, Elvis Preserve, Hound Dog was one of his most famous singles, however there are many people that do not know of the original written by Willie Mae, Big Mamma Thornton. Why did Elvis have more commercial success with his version? Big Mamma Thorns version was released just four years before Elvis and was number one for seven weeks. Rather than it being recorded as a pop song, it was a blues/Ran single. The tonality of this version is dramatically telling of the introduction of blues music into the mainstream in the early asss. In the same ear of her release two major political events changed the history of the U. S and the world. Firstly the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) approved their European army. The organization, which Involved Great Brutal and the U. S. Was constructed to protect the freedom of the North Atlantic community against the Soviet union during the Cold war. The Cold war was a consequence of the Korean War. The second major event was Americas first use of the Hydrogen bomb in Antennae. Which was ordered to be developed by President Truman only a couple of years before. The old war effected citizens by putting restrictions on political views, such as communism. Thoughts of communism remained within secret groups as a result could lead to arrest or death. Also the restrictions affected all the arts, as there was lots of censorship, this militant way of life, meant that families at the time were very straight in their decisions and appearance. Only four years after World War two into the early years of the Cold War, the world experienced a dramatic Increase in population, 77 million babies were born from 1946-1964 in America alone. This was ladled The Baby Boom. This new generation of babies were the focus of marketing campaigns and business plans. It was around the same year of Hound dogs first release, that the color T. V was created, but many homes didnt own one. This could suggest that in this decade music and artists such as Big Momma Thornton could receive wider coverage across a bigger audience due to the accessibility. Many commercials between 1950-1960 did not feature the songs of popular musicians; it was more the nature and image created by the adverts that affected the audiences assign and musical taste. For example popular products that were advertised were cigarettes and hair products for men and cleaning and cooking products for women. You can see that the image of the typical man and women in these adverts, correlate with the popular musicians of that time such as Little Richard, Buddy holly and Elvis Presley. Elvis version of the song was sonically very different to the original and to recordings he had done previously, as well as the way he performed before. One of Elvis first television performances, on the Milton Berne Show in 1956 was deemed ere controversial due to the overtly sexual hip thrusts. This sexual performance was the first of Its kind, and with It being able to be viewed wealth the homes of conservative families, the impact it had on young teens was significant. Elvis was believed to named the first frontal of rock and roll, therefore creating a new era of music and fashion. As well as changing the style and performance of the song Elvis also changed and added some of the lyrics. The line, you anti never caught a rabbit and you anti no friend of mine, was added to the original. However the argument of track after seeing Freddie and The Bellboys perform it in L. A. Although theres speculation as to who wrote this lyric, Elvis did step in as a producer for this track and was known to change the line Well you said you was a high class which was repeated twice, to, Well you said you was a high class but that was Just a lie. How has Elvis version of hound dog had an impact on culture today? Firstly some may argue that Elvis was the creator of Rock n Roll. Although he wasnt the first to sing in his style, he popularized the style with this single, making it go to number one for eleven weeks which was a new record for its time. Elvis did manage to, however combine different musical genres and gave rockabilly a new sound. Elvis fused the country-western music of the South with the rhythm and blues of African Americans and the pop music that dictated the radio and recording industries. Others may say that his integration of genres, causing a new movement in music Just prior to the civil rights movement, may also be the reason for his great success.

The Future Perfect Tense in Italian
The Future Perfect Tense in Italian ââ¬Å"In two years, I will have learned Italian.â⬠How do you express a sentence like that in Italian? You use a tense called il futuro anteriore, or the future perfect tense in English. Youââ¬â¢ll notice that it looks similar to the il futuro semplice, the simple future tense, but has an extra addition. Hereââ¬â¢s what that sentence above will look like: Fra due anni, sarà ² riuscito/a ad imparare lââ¬â¢italiano. If youââ¬â¢re familiar with the future tense, youââ¬â¢ll notice the ââ¬Å"sarà ²Ã¢â¬ , which is the first person conjugation of the verb ââ¬Å"essere - to beâ⬠. Immediately after, youââ¬â¢ll see another verb ââ¬Å"riuscire - to succeed at/to be able toâ⬠in a past participle form. (If youââ¬â¢re not sure a past participle is, take a look at this article. Itââ¬â¢s basically just the form a verb changes to when you need to talk about something that happened in the past. Other examples you might recognize are ââ¬Å"mangiatoâ⬠for the verb ââ¬Å"mangiareâ⬠and ââ¬Å"vissutoâ⬠for the verb ââ¬Å"vivereâ⬠.) Iââ¬â¢ll give you a few examples first and then weââ¬â¢ll break down how you can start forming and using the futuro anteriore. Esempi Alle sette avremo gi mangiato. - By seven well already have eaten.Noi avremo parlato al padre di Anna. - We will already have spoken to Annas father.Marco non à ¨ venuto alla festa, sar stato molto impegnato. - Marco didnââ¬â¢t come to the party, he must have been very busy. When to Use It Typically youââ¬â¢ll use this verb tense when youââ¬â¢re talking about an action in the future (like you having already eaten) before something else happens (like it being 7 PM). You can also use it when youââ¬â¢re unsure about something thatââ¬â¢s happening in the future or that happened in the past, like you thinking that the reason Marco didnââ¬â¢t come to the party was because he was busy. In this case, other words that you could use instead of forming the futuro anteriore would be ââ¬Å"forse - maybeâ⬠, ââ¬Å"magari - maybeâ⬠or ââ¬Å"probabilmente - probablyâ⬠. How to Form the Futuro Anteriore As you saw above, the futuro anteriore is created when you combine a future tense conjugation (like sarà ²) with a past participle (like riuscito), which makes it a compound tense. To be more specific though (and easier on you), there are only two verbs that you can use in the future tense conjugation spot, and they are the auxiliary verbs avere or essere. Take a look at the two tables below that show you the future tense conjugations for the verbs ââ¬Å"essere - to beâ⬠and ââ¬Å"avere - to haveâ⬠. Essere - To Be Sar - I will be Saremo - We will be Sarai - You will be Sarete - You all will be Sar - He/she/it will be Saranno - They will be Avere - To Have Avr - I will have Avremo - We will have Avrai - You will have Avrete - You all will have Avr - He/she/it will have Avranno - They will have How Do You Choose Between ââ¬Å"Essereâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Avereâ⬠?| When youââ¬â¢re deciding which auxiliary verb to use either ââ¬Å"essereâ⬠or ââ¬Å"avereâ⬠you use the same logic as you would when youââ¬â¢re choosing ââ¬Å"essereâ⬠or ââ¬Å"avereâ⬠with the passato prossimo tense. So, as a quick reminder, reflexive verbs, like sedersi - to sit oneself, and most verbs that are related to mobility, like ââ¬Å"andare - to goâ⬠, ââ¬Å"uscire - to go outâ⬠, or ââ¬Å"partire - to leaveâ⬠, will be paired with ââ¬Å"essereâ⬠. Most other verbs, like ââ¬Å"mangiare - to eatâ⬠, ââ¬Å"usare - to useâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"vedere - to lookâ⬠, will be paired with ââ¬Å"avereâ⬠. Andare - To Go Sar andato/a - I will have gone Saremo andati/e - We will have gone Sarai andato/a - You will have gone Sarete andati/e - You (all) will have gone Sar andato/a - He/she/it will have gone Saranno andati/e - They will have gone Mangiare - To Eat Avr mangiato - I will have eaten Avremo mangiato - We will have eaten Avrai mangiato - You will have eaten Avrete mangiato - You (all) will have eaten Avr mangiato - He/she/it will have eaten Avranno mangiato - They will have eaten Esempi Quando avrà ² finito questo piatto, verrà ² da te. - When I will have finished this dish, I will go to your place.Sarai stata felicissima quando hai ottenuto la promozione! - You must have been/I imagine you were happy when you got the promotion!Appena avrà ² guardato questo film, te lo darà ². - As soon as I have watched this movie, I will give it to you.Riuscirai a parlare lââ¬â¢italiano fluentemente quando avrai fatto molta pratica. - You will succeed at speaking Italian fluently when you will have practiced it a lot.Appena ci saremo sposati, compreremo una casa. - As soon as we are married, we will buy a house.

Ethics In The Media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Ethics In The Media - Essay Example In order to establish this concept of ethics in media, the method of self-regulation is used. Self-regulation in essence, aims to set minimum standards on ethics to guarantee that journalists pertain to rules of conduct while representing information through the media. Ethics become necessary in this regard because any source of media would be regarded as untrustworthy by the people if it presents distorted information. In the current generation the high levels of competition in the media industry could result in severe losses. Many problems could arise due to not respecting the ethics in a particular situation. Ethics ensure a reliance on a culture that understands personal boundaries of people, refrains from lies and deceitful dealings and does not use unfair means to achieve personal gains (Chiyamaka 4). Applying ethics to media would obviously mean by extension that no social, moral or professional harm should be caused to those involved. When these ethics are applied in the form of rules, it would guarantee the general public that their private lives are respected and no personal harm is caused to any of them. The spirit of democracy is hampered if a code of ethics is not followed by the media because no freedom is present since, people are controlled through the watchful eyes of the media lurking to catch up on their every move. Therefore, the judgements should always be rational on the part of media, keeping in mind the fact that there are lives and sensitive matters such as the relationships between different countries involved (Chiyamwaka 3). A prominent book basically covered the idea of social and religious factors when it comes to ethics in the research media. A case was the recent publication of the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a Danish Newspaper, which was an offence intended towards all Muslim readership (Ward & Wasserman 142-143).The whole idea that a religion is being disrespected is horrendous and does not respect any of the rules of et hics. This caused a tremendous outcry in the media and people carried out mass protests against this act because it went out rightly against a particular system of belief. This also occurred upon the planning of the international Burn the Quran Day (Ward & Wasserman 143-145). This was shown on different news channels without having a hint of hatred or realization that this act was wrong. The reason why this might be so popular in the United States is because of the reason that media has been given the same freedom as human beings. This is one of the articles in the constitution, which says: ââ¬Å"Congress shall make no lawâ⬠¦ abridging the freedom of speech or of the pressâ⬠(Johnson et al 1). This was passed in 1971 as the 1st Amendment, in the Bill of Rights in the U. S. Constitution. According to this concept, the U. S. claims that every system has a presence of checks and balances. This means that the media will try to establish the fact that internal checks and balanc es will control and mishaps in the media (Johnson et al 4). Ethics are synonymous with fairness, justice, impartiality and their presentation of truth just as it is. These ethics play a significant role in shaping a society, especially for its reformation. The media plays a major role in the lives of people today all
